The UK Airprox Board data reveals that the number of near-misses between drones and civil and military air traffic has climbed dramatically in recent years. In the UK, it is illegal to fly a drone within 1 kilometer of an airport boundary and above 400ft high. Gatwick's runway airport was shut down by drone sightings and around 110,000 passengers were impacted by the disruption recently.
But flights were suspended again for an hour late following a suspected drone sighting. It renewed calls for the UK to reassess its regulatory regime as well as what technologies the country should be investing into the spot and eliminate the threat of an unmanned aerial vehicle in seconds.
The near misses between drones and the planes in the UK in each year is listed as follows:
2013 - 0,
2014 - 9,
2015 - 29,
2016 - 71,
2017 - 93,
2018 - 117.
