Methane can come from many sources, both natural and man made. Methane makes up 16% of our total greenhouse gas emissions. It's mostly used as a fossil fuel to generate electricity. it is a byproduct of decomposition. It is a more powerful greenhouse gas than C02.

It reaches the atmosphere faster than C02, but disappears quicker like after a decade or two. so it warms the planet rapidly in the short term. Some gases are more effective than others at making the planet warmer and thickening the earth's atmosphere.

The amount of carbon dioxide produced depends on the carbon content of the fuel. The increase of these emissions is expected to occur in the developing countries, including China and India. It is expected to increase by 1.3% annually between 2007 and 2035.
