Fish is considered to be the cheapest form of animal protein, and a healthy one at that. Fishing and fisheries are critical for employment for the vast majority of the population living in coastal areas, especially in the developing countries. This industry accounts for employment of nearly 40 – 45million people worldwide. But with the demand for fish and related products on the rise due to increasing population, overfishing is one the major challenges that need to be managed by all those who demand for fish as well as those who depend on fisheries for their living. This infographic from UNEP discusses the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) principles of fisheries certification, which if followed could help recover fishing stocks that have been getting depleted at a very fast pace.
