Based on a research published in the journal Plos, One more food was wasted more than previously.  The average world citizen wasted 727 calories per day while comparing food availability and daily calorie intake in different countries. The U.S.has the highest number of food waste with 1,572 calories per day. 40 countries out of the 117 countries were not wasting food, and their food availability was below the daily caloric need of their inhabitants.

The average daily food waste caused by consumers in selected countries in  terms of kcal/day are:
1,572 ‐ United States,
1,415 ‐ Germany,
1,327 ‐ Japan,
1,252 ‐ Spain,
909 ‐ Mexico,
806 ‐ Brazil,
