The source from IEA says, there are currently only three million e-vehicles on the streets around the globe, but the current growth rates are immense. Big manufacturers like e-car champion Tesla, guiding the whole development.

The engine types are both battery electric vehicle and Plug-in hybrid vehicle. From the year 2005 and 2008 in between, there is no drastic change. 2009-2011 is the starting phase of electric cars, and they are mostly Battery Electric Vehicle.
In 2012, the growth rate was 179.03 in 1000. It starts to grow well around the year from 2013 to 2015. The rate crossed near 2 billion in 2016. It took a massive growth on 2017. Battery Electric engine type vehicle is preferred more than Plug-in hybrid engine type vehicle.
